János was born on October 27th, 1763 in Jászárokszállás.1   His godmother was Nagy Erzsébet.  János' father was Kókay János and his mother was Faragó Katalin.  His maternal grandparents were Faragó Mihály and Papp Anna. He had four sisters named Anna, Ilona, Katalin and Ilona.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
