Margriet was born in November 1680 and her baptism took place on November 17th, 1680 in Rijnsburg.1   Her godmother was Juffrouw van Mathenesse. Margriet's father was Theophilus Copius and her mother was Elisabeth van Hoff.  Her paternal grandparents were Theophilus Copius and Elisabeth Ackerman. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Karel, Theophilus, Maarten, Philip Willem, Philip Willem, Adam, Elisabeth Josijn and Catharina.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
