Jan was born in 1691 in Aalburg and his baptism took place there on January 21st, 1691. Jan's father was Meerten Jacobs van Bergeijk and his mother is Adriaantje Robberts van Kerkwijk.  His paternal grandparents are Jacob van Bergeijk and N.N.. He has a brother named Dirk. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Evert Maartenszn, Anneke and Mari Mertens.
