Metje was born in 1712 and her baptism took place on March 27th, 1712 in Haaften.1   Her godfather was/is Gerrit Mels and her godmother was/is Arike. Metje's father was Teunis Handrikszn Aldens and her mother is Meriken Jansdr Pippel.  Her paternal grandparents were Hendrick Dirckszn Aldens and N.N. N.N.. She had seven brothers and a sister, named Jan, Handrick, Dirck, Geijsbert, Aeldert, Gijsbert, Arien and Catharijn Teunisdr.  She is the sixth oldest of the nine children.
