    "LIEUT. - COL. CLOUDESLEY CECIL HUGHES D'AETH, aged about 80, of Firs Glen-Road, Bournemouth, died in Boscombe Hospital on Saturday evening after being injured in a collision between his car - driven by his son - and another at the Junction of Roslin-Road and Stirling Road.
    
    The son, the Rev. H. le Hardy Hughes d'Aeth, curate-in-charge of St. Peter's Church, Lowden, Chippenham, was in Bournemouth accompanying members of the choir on an outing.
    
    It is understood that he left the coach at Winton to call on his father. When the coach arrived at the car park members of the choir noticed he had left a parcel behind.
    
    They phoned the curate from a restaurant where they were lunching. He began to drive to the restaurant in his father's car with his father.
    
    The accident occurred on the way. Col d'Aeth was thrown through the car roof. The son was bruised and shaken.
    
    The other car was driven by Mrs Etches, of Western-avenue, Bournemouth.
    
    The Bournemouth Coroner (Mr T. C. Thompson) will open an inquest tomorrow.
    
    Lieut.-Col Hughes d'Aeth served with the Dorset Regiment in Mesopotamia during the first world war. After his retirement he was a Town Councillor at Worthing for 13 years.
    
    He came to Bournemouth in about 1931, and was a choirman at St. Stephen's Church, Bournemouth."

    "Giving evidence at yesterday's inquest on Lieut. Col. Cloudesley Cecil Hugh D'Aeth, aged 78, of Firs Glen Road, Bournemouth, who died of injuries in a car crash, Mrs Ellen Mathews, of Roslin-road, Winton, told the jury:
    
    "I saw a man come flying through the air into the road-way, striking his head on the kerb."
    
    Col. D'Aeth was a passenger in his own car, driven by his son, when the accident occured on June 25.
    
    A verdict of "Accidental death" was returned.
    
    Mrs. Elsie May Etches, of 128. Western-avenue, Ensbury Park - driver of the other car - said she turned out of Talbot-avenue into Roslin-road at about 20 m.p.h. On reaching the Stirling-road crossing she slowed down, glanced to the right and then the left.
    
    When she was on the crossing she saw a car approaching about three lengths away. She immediately braked and was stationary when the other car struck her's.
    
    It then swerved into the pavement and she saw a man thrown through the roof onto the road. The car then turned completely over.
    
    Questioner by Mr. R. Hughes, who represented the Rev. D'Aeth, she said that she had been driving for many years and knew the district well.
    
    The Rev. H. le Hardy Hughes D'Aeth, curate-in-charge of St. Peter's Church, Lowden, Chippenham, said that he was driving his father along Stirling-road towards Winton. When a short distance from Roslin-road, he saw a car coming from the right and felt it strike his car.
    
    He could remember absolutely nothing until he found himself walking towards his father who was lying on the ground. He had received injuries and was struck on the side of the head. He could not remember getting out of the car.
    
    He said he could not say exactly what speed he was travelling, but he knew that it was not fast as he was not in a hurry. It was probably in the region of 20 to 25 m.p.h.
    
    Questioned by Mr. H. Ellis (representing Mrs. Etches), he said he saw the car approaching him just before the collision.
    
    Mrs. Mathews added that when the cars came to a standstill a man climbed out on the roof. She estimated the speed of both cars at about 20-25 m.p.h. Neither gave warning - and neither slackened speed, she alleged.
    
    Donald William Facer, a passenger in Mrs. Etches' car, said that he estimated their speed at the crossing to be about 10 - 15 m.p.h. Mrs Etches clutched and braked as soon as she saw the car. He did not think there was anything else she could have done.
