DiFRANCO, CARMINE J., 82, of East Avenue, died Thursday at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Allesandro) DiFranco. Born in Warwick, he was a son of the late Antonio and Beatrice (Marsocci) DiFranco. Mr. DiFranco was a WWII Veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant in a Field Artillery Battalion in General Patton's Third Army and was a recipient of Five Battle Stars. After the war, he became a full-time member of The Rhode Island Air National Guard. He retired as a Chief Master Sargeant in 1983. His last duty assignment was as Assistant Base Supply Officer. He was the recipient of the Civil Servant Award in 1976. Among the numerous other awards and decorations that he received are the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal, The Air Force Commendation Medal and the R.I. National Guard Service Medal. He was a member of the Ring Retirees Association, a life member of the East Natick Veteran's Asssociation and the Pasco R. Senerchia Post #74 of The American Legion. A Member of Sacred Heart Church, he sang in the Sacred Heart Choir for many years. He was an avid gardener and maintained an Apple Orchard and Fig Trees. His avocations included interior house painting and wallpapering, particularly for family and friends. He is survived by two sons Paul DiFranco of Warwick and Mark DiFranco of Foster; a daughter Mary Lynn Campbell of Warwick; a brother Tullio DiFranco of Cranston. He was the father-in-law of Denise DiFranco and Peter Campbell. Grandfather of Marcie, Emily, and Ann Marie DiFranco and Sheena, Nicholas, and Angela Campbell; he was the companion of Cornelia Pacheco of Warwick. He was a brother of the late Genevieve Ricard, Philomena Pucino, and Celestina DiFranco. His funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. from THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 820 Providence Street, West Warwick. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Sunday 4-8 p.m.
