  • LYDIA M. RAO, 89, of Pendleton Road, New Britain, Conn., a former owner of an apparel business, died Monday at New Britain General Hospital.
    
    She was the wife of the late Anthony Rao. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Saverio and Carmella (DAmelio) Caruolo, she was a resident of New Britian for 65 years.
    
    She had worked with her husband in their family business, Anthony Raos Womens Apparel, as an assistant dress and millinery buyer. She was a gourmet cook and pastry maker. She was a charter member of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, New Britain.
    
    She leaves two sons, Joseph A. Rao of Newington, Conn., and Anton L. Rao of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Lucy Saravo and Mary Kosikaski, both of Providence; and five grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Angelo, Thomas and Ricky Caruolo, Fannie Innocente and Etta Piciullo.
