Nancy Robeson Wise is the daughter of James Robeson and Elizabeth Stafford [according to] a biography of Thomas H. Robeson in a Franklin County history:

"The paternal grandparents of Thomas H. Robeson were James Robeson and wife, the former of whom was born in North Carolina and came to Kentucky early in life, and later, about 1809, settled in Franklin county, Indiana, his death occurring in this county in 1871. Grandmother Robeson died in 1858 in Ripley county, Indiana, at the home of one of her daughters, Mrs. Nancy Wise.

"[...] "Mr. Robeson's maternal grandfather, Michael Whitehead, was a native of Pennsylvania. Following his marriage in the Keystone state he and his bride determined to make a home for themselves farther westwards and came to Indiana, locating in Dearborn county, where they soon became among the most influential farmers of that section. Upon the death of Mrs. Whitehead, her bereaved husband gave up his home in Dearborn county and his last days were passed pleasantly in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robeson, in Highland township."

KY, residing with Catharin, age 41 (b est 1829), female, white, keeping house, b. OH, cannot write, James 13 IN, attended school within the year, Mary 10 IN, attended school within the year, George 8 IN, Michael 3 IN, and John WHITEHEAD, age 82 (b est 1788), farmer, b. PA (possibly Ann Catherine's father). (Other WHITEHEAD enumerants in IN in 1870 b PA: Adam 1803 PA, Samuel 1810 PA, both in Jackson, Elkhart; Henrietta 1848 PA in New Paris, Elkhart; and Rachel 1800 PA in Jefferson, Switzerland.)

(L.) 10 male IN attended school within the year, James M. 3 male IN, May Elizabeth 3/12 female IN. Immed nbr at 230/227 is James ROBESON 76 male retired val of real/pers est 1400/200 NC. (Note: In 1860, Ann Catharine's (father) John WHITEHEAD 1788 PA appears in Jackson, Dearborn, IN as a (widowed) shoemaker, next to his (son) Michael 1824 OH cooper and (wife) Anna 1828 IN, (sons) Thomas 1849 IN and Ethan 1859 IN. In 1850, Michael 1824 OH appears in Jackson, Dearborn as a cooper with (wife) Ann 1828 IN and (son) Thomas M. (alt. H.) 1849 IN, plus Tho(s) MC DANIEL 1811 PA laborer; unable to locate John 1788 PA in any state.)

son George B's biography:
"George B. Robeson [...] was born in 1863 on the farm in which he still makes his home and on which he has resided all his life. He first saw the light of day in the old stone house on the paternal farm, which now is occupied by his son. George B. is the son of John and Catherine Ann (Whitehead) Robeson, the former of whom was born in Kentucky, June 18, 1810, and who came to Franklin county with his parents when he was but one year old, the family locating in the neighborhood in which they spent the remainder of their lives. Catherine Ann (Whitehead) Robeson was a member of one of the pioneer families of Dearborn county.

"George B. Robeson's paternal grandfather, James Robeson, was for many years one of the most prominent residents of Dearborn county, and it is still recalled by those whose memories go back to the traditions of pioneer days that no gathering of the neighborhood folk in those early days was complete without him. He was not only famous as a "fiddler," the strains of whose rollicking music were considered necessary to the success of all social meetings of the day, but he was already noted as a skillful Nimrod, whose [breaks off]"

on 1807 Indiana Territory Census:
The Indiana Territory was established from the Old Northwest Territory in 1800. Originally it included a vast area from which the Michigan Territory was separated in 1805 and the Illinois
Territory in 1809. Only three Indiana Counties were formed before 1808, Knox in 1790, Clark in 1801and Dearborn in 1803. In 1806 the General Assembly of the Indiana Territory passes a resolution: to enable the Governor of this territory, for equal representation to the general assembly. The sheriffs of the counties
of Dearborn,Clark, Knox and Randolph (Illinois). Take a list of all the free males 21 years and older, and return to list to the secretary of the state on or before the June 1st 1807. There are no known copy of the Clark County census taken in 1806, there are copies of the voters list for this county for the same year.

Dearborn County included an area from Ft. Recovery, Ohio south west to Madison,Indiana. Currently includes all or part of Wayne, Franklin, Union, Fayette, Dearborn, Ohio, Rush and Switzerland Counties.
