g-g-grandson Louis Bernard WALKER in 1965: "My great-great-grandfather Joseph Walker came from England either with or shortly after Lord Baltimore and lived for a time in St. Mary's County, Maryland and lived for a time in Virginia coming from there to Mason County, K[entuck]y near a little town Mays Lick where my grandfather James Daviess Walker was born Aug. 4, 1815. His father Joseph Walker came to Daviess County April 1820 and settled just West of Mount Olive Church in Barr Tp." (courtesy Fran Walker Lichtenberg) (CMB note: As LBW's g-g-grandfather Joseph d. SMC, MD 1794, he is apparently speaking of his g-grandfather Joseph (1765-1836) who emigrated to KY > 1803.)

will, dated 7 Jan 1794, SMC, MD:
To two eldest sons, Joseph & Bennett, all real estate, 12 pounds per annum to be paid by Joseph & Bennett to son William, to son James, stock in trade;to wife, Nell & Nance & their 4 children; the rest to wife & daughters Molly & Nancy; Joseph & Bennett to be guardians of Nancy until 16 and James until he is 21. On the 1800 census for Joseph Walker in SMC, MD, for
starters, this cannot be the Joseph who d. 1794 SMC,
of course. That Joseph's son, also named Joseph (b.
1760-1770), would not yet have married Rebecca Davis,
as they married only in 1803 -- so I'm not sure who
this is, or whether this record is for Joseph b.
1760-1770 s/o Joseph d. 1794. ***None of the males
fits for my Joseph b. MD 1760-1770, d. Daviess, IN
1836.***

I read the record for (1) Joseph (Roll 12 : Page 429)
as 03201-01010 and 6? slaves, thus:

3 m 10-16 (b 1784-1790)
2 m 16-26 (b 1774-1784)
1 m 45+ (b < 1755) (Joseph?)
1 f 10-16 (b 1784-1790)
1 f 26-45 (b 1755-1774)

The other Walker (soundex) households in SMC in 1800
are:
(2) Ann 01010-00001-0-10 (R12:P412),
(3) James 00001-02100 (R12:P423),
(4) John 00010-00001 (R12:P413),
(5) Richard 12010-10031 (R12:P417) and
(6) William 00010-00000-0-4 (R12:P. There is also
(7) James Walker 10010-21010 (R12:P417) (indexed as a
Walther) and very close to William.

Joseph d. 1794 named four sons: Joseph b. < 1773
(fits (1) above), Bennett b. < 1773, William b. < 1773
(fits (6) above), and James b. > 1773 (might fit (7)
above but not (3)).

1790 US Census for SMC, MD incls a Joseph WALKER Sr.
as head of h/hold w/4 white males over 16 (b < 1774)
(Joseph Sr, Joseph Jr, Bennett, William?), 1 white male
under 16 (b > 1774) (James), 3 white females and 1
other free person (see image, rt side,btm) (4130-).
(Fran W-L notes 11 slaves.)

Same page has h/hold of a Joseph Ju[nio]r WALKER w/2
white males 16 years and upwards (b < 1774), 5 white
males under 16 years (b > 1774), and 2 white females;
no "other free persons" and no "slaves" (252--). On
same page are James WALKER Ju[nio]r 1-3-1, John WALKER
1-1--, and, James WALKER Se[nio]r 124--. (Records are
listed roughly alphabetically.)
