William I. SEAL was the fourth of 11 children born to George and Mary SEAL. He and his family moved from Illinois to Indiana between October 1882 and January 1885, by which latter date William was just shy of his seventh birthday. In June 1900, when William was 28 years old, the family was living in eastern Barr Township in Daviess County. He met his wife Elizabeth Jane ("Bessie") WALKER there, and they married on 20 May 1902. In 1910 and 1920 they were living in Loogootee. By 1930 they had moved to Indianapolis, where they lived on E. Michigan.

1880 US Census (Jun 7 & 8), residing in Harter Twp, Clay Cty, IL, head of h/hold is farmer George SEAL, age 29, b. KY, f/m b. KY/VA, living with wife Mary 26 IN, f/m b. IN/IN, and four children, all b. IL: son Julian 9, Clarence 7, dtr Laurie 6, and William 2. All but William are "at school." H/hold includes Geroge's father William SEAL77 KY, f/m b. MD/"(KY)" and Sophia SEAL 71 MD, f/m b. MD/MD. Also two farm laborers. This is the only SEAL head of h/hold in Clay Cty, IL in 1880.
