    John Leach, son of Willis Leach and Mary Barnett, was born at Leachtown, West Virginia on September 9, 1816. He died on November 2, 1866 and was buried in the Prairie View Cemetery at Prairie City, Iowa.
    
    A widower at the time he married (3rd) Lorinda, John Leach was married twice previously. On October 15, 1837 he married (1st) Elizabeth Page in Leachtown, West Virginia. Elizabeth (Page) Leach died on June 13, 1849 and was buried in the Leach family cemetery near Leachtown.
    
        John B. and Elizabeth (Page) Leach had seven children:

    John Thomas Leach, was born in Rockbridge, Virginia. He died in Des Moines, Iowa on April 13, 1912 and was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Colfax (Jasper County) Iowa. On August 3, 1866, John Thomas married Amanda Violet Kettleman at Independence, Iowa.
    
        John married (2nd) Eleanor Ogden on July 23, 1849. She died on May 10, 1850. 
    
        John B. and Eleanor (Ogden) Leach had one child:
    
            - Amanda Jane    (b.Jan 15, 1850)
    
        In 1853, John and Lorinda deeded land back to John's father in Leachtown (Wood County) West Virginia. There was a large migration from West Virginia to Iowa that year and it is presumed that the couple left West Virginia around that time.
    
        In the 1856 Iowa Census, John B. (39 Va) and Lorinda (27 Ohio) Leach were enumerated in Waterloo, Blackhawk County with children: Willis (17 Va), Elizabeth (15 Va), John Thomas (14 Va), Newton (12 Va), Mary Frances (10 Va), Marion (7 Va), Francis Jefferson (4 Va), Lorinda Viola (1 Iowa), and Enoch Rector (0 Iowa).
    
        Six of John's sons were said to have died during the Civil War, including three who were killed at the Battle of Bull Run.
    
        John B. Leach owned 1,000 acres in what was once Waterloo, Iowa. He sold this land to finance a trip to the California gold fields. When he got to Council Bluffs he purchased a tavern and hotel and then went to Grove City where he did the same.

    Francis Jefferson Leach applied to marry Mary Elizabeth Waggoner on December 26, 1868 in Jasper County, Iowa. Mary was born on July 19, 184. Francis was a farmer near Elba, Nebraska having gone to Nebraska in 1885.
    
    In the 1900 Census, Francis was enumerated in Howard County, Nebraska. He was called a widower and had living with him sons William (14) and Ross (11).
    
    In 1915 Francis Jefferson Leach moved to Montana and lived with Rosa and Jay Jennings there until his death in 1930.

    Sarah Lorinda "Laura" Leach, who had been born at Colfax, Iowa married Gustavus Adelbert "Del" Jennings on July 3,    1894. A farmer near Ord, Nebraska, Del had been born in Adair County, Iowa in December of 1868. He died at Ord, Nebraska in 1927.
          
                Del and Sarah Lorinda "Laura" (Leach) Jennings had             children born in Ord (Nebraska), Colfax (Iowa) and             Mound Prairie (Iowa):

    Rosa Harriet Ellen Leach was born at Colfax. She married Marion Jay Jennings on April 13, 1890 at Elba, Nebraska. A farmer living near Ord, Nebraska, Marion was born in 1869. In 1896 they removed to     Camp Crook, South Dakota Territory and homesteaded there until 1910 when they removed to Carter County. They operated a sawmill in Carter County until 1932 when they removed to Belltower, South Dakota.
    
                Marion Jay and Rosa Harriet Ellen (Leach) Jennings             had eight children, one of whom died in infancy.

    Myrtle Jennings married Charles Ripley and they lived in Kalispell, Montana.
    
                    Lily Jennings married Claude Lewis and they                     lived in Wilborn, Montana.
    
    Mabel Jennings married William Thomas of Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
    
                    Marion married George Pew, Jr. of Creston,                     Montana.
    
    John Leach died on January 21, 1875 aged two weeks.
    
    Francis "Frank" Thomas Leach was born at Colfax and married Nora Ellen Meckley at Elba, Nebraska on April 2, 1900. Nora was born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania on November 11, 1876.
    
    In the 1910 Census, "Frank" Thomas Leach and his wife Nora Ellen Meckley were enumerated in Mound Prairie Township (Jasper County) with their children Lilly B., George O., Myrtle E. and Ruth I.

    L. Herbert and Lillian Belle (Leach) Mendenhall had a daughter, Melba, born in St. Louis on November 20, 1940. Melba was living in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1998. Melba married William Burton Akason on June 1, 1968 and had children     born at Oskaloosa:

    Philip Andrew Akason married Ginger Heinle on June 27, 1992.

                Lillie Belle Leach died in November of 1893.
    
                William Harvey Leach was born at Colfax, Iowa. He                 married Vena Paxton on February 19, 1905 at Kelso,             Washington. He died at Reseda (Los Angeles County)             California in May of 1872.
    
                Ross Orrison Leach was born in Elba, Nebraska. He                 married Birtha McKunscik and died at Mokena,                 Illinois in March of 1973.
    
    Lorinda Viola Leach applied to marry George W. Waggoner in Jasper County on January 2, 1869. George may have been a brother to Elizabeth Waggoner who married Lorinda's older brother, Francis. On November 19, 1874 Lorinda married Isaac Byers, a Hamden County, Ohio farmer. Isaac, son of Isaac Byers and Martha Walker, was born in Jackson County, Ohio in 1850 and died in Hamden (Vinton County) Ohio on September 18, 1907.
    
            Isaac and Lorinda Viola (Leach) Byers had children:

    in Colfax (Jasper County) Iowa. Charles, son of Isaac Byers and Martha Walker, was born March 14, 1853 and died December 24, 1944 in Decatur, Illinois. Rachel died in Jones Nursing Home, Newton, Iowa on September 5, 1946. She was buried in Ashton Chapel, Mingo (Jasper County) Iowa.

                Florence May Byers was born in Jasper County. She                 married Louis Marre and may have died in Texas.
    
                Seneca Thomas Byers was born in Jasper County. He                 died in Vandalia, Illinois.
        
    Harvey Randolph Leach married Isabella F. Manaige in Colfax on November 26, 1890 and had no children. Isabella was a painter.
    
    Florentine "Florence May" Minerva Caroline Leach married Henry Harrison Woods in March of 1888. He was a farmer near Colfax.
    
            Henry Harrison and Florentine "Florence May" Minerva             Caroline (Leach) Woods had eight children, including:

    Laura Lusetta Adalade Leach was born after the death of her father. After falling and breaking a hip, Laura developed pneumonia and died in Los Angeles General Hospital on May 6/8, 1959. After being cremated, Laura's remains were buried in the Chapel of Pines. She was living with her son in the Los Angeles suburb of South Gate at the time of her death.
    
            Laura married (1st) Edward J. Beaulieu, a baker. They             lived at 826 West Walnut Street in Des Moines, Iowa and         had one child.
    
            Laura also married a Mr. Simpson with whom she had             children:
