Oddly, neither Pattons nor Herdmans are to be found in either Drumacony or The Ned in the Parish of Tamlaght Finlagan in the Griffiths Valuation of circa 1855 so both families seem to be blow-ins.
BUT,
William Herdman acquired 48 acres in the Ned in 1874 from Martha Hood and we can see from the 1911 Census that William Herdman aged 45 was the son of a widow Isabella Herdman nee Hood (her spinster sister, Matilda Hood, is living with her).
Isabella Herdman acquired William Herdman's land in the Ned in 1902.
Robert Patton acquired 42 acres from David Craig in Drumaconey in 1889 and then Thomas Patton acquired it in 1890.
Thomas Patton acquired James Loan's 20 acres in Drumaconey in 1901.
Thomas Patton acquired John Limerickis 25 acres and his 3 acres in Drumaconey in 1911 giving him possession of the entire townland of 91 acres.
Thomas Patton's father was a Robert Patton when he married in 1897. There is no Robert Patton in Tamlagh Finlagan in the GV but then Robert may have been too young to be in the GV. There are however lots of Pattons - with biblical names like Solomon and Abraham, who lived in Crindle in Tamlaght Finlagan in the GV.
Thomas Patton still holds the land in Drumaconey when the GVRBs end in 1930.
This is probably Robert Patton's death record:
D/1893/135/1017/6/206 Robert Patton 24th June 1893 77 Male Limavady(pre-1973 Q4)
