Here is the info from the Mt. Vernon NY d. cert for Robert Gordon:

JG had always thought this was the brother of his grandfather, William Gordon BUT, William's mother is Rachel Gordon NOT Mayberry.  This man fits so well, I believe someone made an error with his mother's maiden name and perhaps his grandmother was a Mayberry.  Mayberrys were certainly witnesses to his parents wedding and his parent's siblings weddings, who also married each other, so they were close "friends".
