John Barr death

obituary, local newspaper
John Barr Dead
On Sunday morning the sad news soon spread that John Barr had passed away after a struggle with sickness for nine weeks. He made a hard fight but death won. Perhaps no man had more friends than he has made during his stay of only three or four years in our city. He came here when Mackie K. was first started to be put down and has since been superintendent and a more popular super is not to be found in the district. The Barr family moved here from Scammon and when they first came lived next door neighbors to us and we never saw a large family as congenial and happy as this one. Mr. Barr was a fine father. They enjoyed each others company.

Mr. Barr was 52 years, 5 months and 4 days old when he passed away. He leaves a widow, five daughters and two sons, three sisters and five brothers. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the A.O.U.W. and I.O.O.F. lodges.

John Barr was born at Braidwood, Illinois, May 1, 1867, and was married to Elizabeth Anderson October 25, 1894.
At the time of his death, he was a member of the city council.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church on Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Chas. Hamilton, which was largely attended by friends from all over the two counties. The members of the council acted as pall bearers and the two lodges to which he belonged were well represented. It was a high tribute to the respect in which he was held by our citizens. All the stores of the town were closed during the services. Interment was made in the Cherokee cemetery.
Our heart goes out in sympathy to Mrs. Barr and the children.
