Oct. 20, 1935 - Nov. 19, 2016 Alan G. Holmes, age 81, passed away on November 19, 2016. He grew up in Birmingham, living here his entire life. He graduated from Ensley High School in 1954 and Auburn University in 1958. Alan had a long career as an industrial engineer at Anderson electric / Square D, retiring in the early 1990's. He enjoyed computers, and leather work, but most especially time with family. His faith was very important to him all of his life and we rejoice to know that he is now with the Lord. He will, however, be painfully missed. Alan is preceded in death by his parents Ralph Earl Holmes and Nancy Leola Wiggins; his brother, Dale Ralph Holmes; and his brother in law, Bob Moore. He is survived by his wife of 59 and a half years, Carol Panos Holmes; son, A. Graham Holmes (Sally Holmes); daughters, Leslie Holmes Turner (Wesley Turner) and Sandy Holmes Griffin (Craig Griffin); grandchildren, Allison, David, and Emily Turner, Betsy Griffin, Sarah, Griffin, Andrew, Sandy, and Annie Holmes; sister, Nancy Holmes Moore. There will be a service at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday November 22nd at 2:00pm with a visitation starting at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Alan's church, Mountain Brook Community Church.
