Virginia Spayd Wed To John Towers

Before an altar banked with white gladiolus and palms, Miss Virginia Ruth Spayd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth S. Spayd, 1306 L street, Belmar, became the bride of John Towers, jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. John Towers, 1311 L street, Belmar, in a ceremony performed at the First Methodist church, Belmar, on Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock. The Rev. Lawrence G. Atkinson, pastor, officiated. Mrs. John Brown of Neptune sang “At Dawning”, “Because” and. “I Love You Truly accompanied, by Miss Mildred Condit at the organ.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white satin with hoop skirt and high, neckline trimmed with seed pearls;. Her finger tip veil of illusion edged with Chantilly lace fell from a tiara of elencon lace. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses. Miss Lucy Spayd was her sisters maid of honor. She wore a gown of fuschia moire taffeta with bouffant skirt, cap sleeves and high neckline. Her matching headpiece was of shirred net and she carried a shower bouquet of white and fuschia gladiolus.

Mrs. Harry Joseph, Philadelphia, a cousin of the bride and Miss Betty Lee Wilde, Brielle, were bridesmaids. Their gowns of aqua moire taffeta and their matching headpieces were styled similar to those of the maid of honor. They carried yellow gladiolus.

John McCarthy of Springfield, N. J, served as best man. Ushers were John Brown, Neptune and Elliot Lichtenstein, Springfield, N. J.

The bride’s mother wore a lace trimmed gown of blue crepe with pink accessories and a corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom’s mother was attired in a pearl gray gown with violet accessories and wore a corsage of violet asters.

Following the ceremony a wedding dinner for fifty guests was served at the Anchorage restaurant. The bride chose for her traveling costume a rose silk dress with brown and green accessories and wore a corsage of white roses. After the wedding trip the couple will reside at South Bend, Indiana.
