Sylvia A. Campbell, 67

Sylvia A. Yaw Campbell, 67, of Mariaville, N.Y., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in her home after a short illness.

She was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Mariaville, N.Y., to the late Kenneth S. Wood and Marianne E. Christman Wood. She was a 1952 graduate of Draper High School. In 1953 she married Lawrence A. Yaw, who died in 1975. She married Robert Campbell of Schenectady, N.Y., in March 1980. He died in 1994.

After a successful career in business and real estate, she and her husband retired in 1986 to Hendersonville, where she lived until April 2002. In Hendersonville, she pursued her newly found talent in the art of watercolors. Her paintings can be found in the Henderson County Courthouse and in many private collections throughout the United States and Asia. As a member of the Art League of Henderson County, she held the office of president and chaired the renowned Hendersonville Sidewalk Art Show for 10 years. She was also a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club of Hendersonville.

Over the course of her life, she designed, built or renovated nine homes in Schenectady, N.Y., and North Carolina.

She is survived by three children, Lawrence E. Yaw and wife, Laurie, of Raleigh, Kenneth A. Yaw of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Linda L. Yellin and husband, William, of Modena, N.Y.; four stepchildren, Betsy Nejman and husband, Edward, and Dr. Robert J. Campbell and wife, Virginia, of Niskayuna, N.Y., Polly Campbell of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Margaret A. Castagna and husband, Jason, of Falmouth, Maine; and a brother, Walter S. Wood and wife, Yvonne, of Naples, Fla. She leaves a legacy of 13 grandchildren, Lawrence, Jaymie and Shannon Yaw of Raleigh, Samantha and Taylor Yellin of Modera, N.Y., Matthew C. Meola and wife, Alexis, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Amanda P. Meola of Schenectady, N.Y., Zachary J. Holmes of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Elisabeth, Haley and Shelby Campbell of Niskayuna, N.Y., and Gabriel and Jackson Castagna of Falmouth, Maine; a great-grandchild; two nieces; and her companion, Harold Bruhne of Mariaville, N.Y.

She touched the hearts and lives of many people. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Elizabeth House, South Allen Road, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731.

Daly Funeral Home in Schenectady, N.Y., is in charge of the arrangements.
