Joyce Swanson obituary

obituary, local newspaper
FROST - Joyce Shirley (Swanson). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joy Frost on February 16, 2001, after a brief illness. Joy was born in Calgary in 1929, the daughter of William and Hazel Swanson. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Geraldine and her son Michael, and leaves to mourn her loving husband Bob; son Robert (Karen); daughter Barbara Fraser (Ian); daughter-in-law Donna; niece Michelle Pathman (Bob), in Los Angeles; and seven grandchildren: Carly, Lindsay, Jocelyn, Cameron, Cody, Hunter and Adrienne, all in Victoria. Joy grew up in Calgary, graduated as an RN from Calgary General Hospital, where she was a Supervisor when she met Bob, who was serving with the PPCLI. They married at Currie Barracks in 1951, and enjoyed postings in Canada, England and Ghana, raising three children along the way. Bob left the service in 1964 to join Eaton's and the family was again on the move, residing in six cities from B.C. to the Maritimes.

In 1976, the family returned to Victoria where Joy pursued her many interests -- nursing, camping, fishing, golfing at Uplands, gardening, cruising and travelling abroad, including jaunts to Scotland tracing her Scottish heritage. She had a passion for creating gourmet cuisine, loved to entertain and was a gracious hostess. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Joy was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, Dr. John Allan and Rev. James Weir officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1-947 Fort St., Victoria, V8W 3K3. The professional and compassionate care Joy received from the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at Victoria General Hospital brought much comfort to her family.
