Easdale quarriers petition, 1846

Petition
20th August 1846 Petition Crews' Ellenabeich and Easdale for Wheat Flour and a Baker

Unto J.H. Mudie Esq. Manager of the Easdale Slate Works

The Petition of the slate quarriers in the employ of the Easdale Co.

Humbley sheweth
That your Petitioners deeply feel the loss of the Potatoes caused by the failure of the said Crop this year, that they consider it to be injurious to their health to live wholly on Oatmeal and although they do not deprecate the Oatmeal they consider it will greatly promote their comfort and health should you have the goodness to procure for them a quantity of wheat flour without delay and also lake [sic] means to provide a Baker for them who will sell Bread at the Glasgow market price at the same quantity and weight, may it therefore please your honour to take your Petitions and care into your serious consideration and grant their request.

From your Petitioners with ever fray [?]
