Kirk Session Records, Newton, Ayrshire,
Newton 2nd May 1844.
The Kirk Session met & constituted sederent. After prayer The Rev Mr Brown Moderator, Bailie John Moore, Bailie Wm Wood, Mr Wm Mills, Mr Robt Alexander & Mr John Gemmell Elders. Janet Shaw compeared & acknowledged herself guilty of trilapse in fornication with John Frew lately de-ceased. Grace Brown nurse in the Fever Hospital appeared & affirmed that John Frew on his death bed acknowledged himself the father of the last, as he had been of the two former Children of Janet Shaw which was confirmed by Robert Henderson
Weaver, who, from his personal knowledge testified that the above was fact.
She was cited afuid acta to appear before the Presbytery on the 30th next first. Session closed with prayer.

Newton 17th June 1844. The Kirk Session met & constituted sederent after prayer The Rev Andw Brown Moderator, Hugh Park,Robt Alexander, Wm Mills, Adam Reid, Alex McCall,and John Gemmell Elders. Compeared Janet Shaw who had appeared before the Presbytery according to citation, was rebuked for trilapse in fornication & remitted to the Kirk Session for discipline. She was re-buked, exhorted to repentance & absolved from public scandal & Church censure. Sederant closed with prayer.
