- Death Notes
- Disappeared from hospital on 17th March 1941. His body was found on May 3rd in the River Clyde at Clydebank. Cause of death: drowning; Where and when died: shipyard explosion.
One story was that he had been patrolling streets in Renfrew as an ARP warden during an air raid (so maybe he was blown into the river).
However, according to Ewan Douglas, he was injured a month earlier in the blast that destroyed their home - he was coming up the street, the family was in the Andersen shelter. He was in hospital for a month, then disappeared - walked out and was not seen alive again.
His family had a history of mental illness, and Hetty later said she had decided not to have children with him because of this.
"Result of precognition. See Reg. of Com Ents. (vol 11) 4217 2 JUNE 1941"
Though suicide (by drowning) was rumoured, he was presumed to have been blown into the river by a bomb. His widow was thus entitled to a War Widow's pension for the rest of her life.
40 years old, so born 1900/01
