Janet was born in 1877 in Glasgow.1 2 Janet's father was John Main and her mother was Jessie Stevenson. Her maternal grandparents were David Stevenson and Jean Martin. She had two brothers and a sister, named John, David and Jane. She was the second youngest of the four children. She had two half-brothers named Alexander and James.-
