from the Onaga Herald, Saturday, December 30, 1920: One of the most pleasant and appropriate events of the holiday season was the celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of the marriage of Mr and Mrs Levi McGuire of this city on Christmas day. A large number of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and friends met in the basement of the Congregational church at the noon hour with baskets filled with seasonable good things to eat and prepared a bounteous banquet. A delegation of the older children escorted the honored guests from their home to the church basement and seated them at table especially prepared for the bride and groom. After doing justice to the groaning table many splendid and beautiful presents were given, among which was a gold brooch and ring to the bride and a gold watch and chain to the groom. The ring ceremony was used in the remarriage of the couple which afforded some embarrassment to the blushing bride and timid groom and gave much amusement to those present. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in renewing acquaintances and friendships among the visitors, some of whom had never met before this occasion. One witness of the marriage was present to honor the occasion. Mr. McGuire is upwards of 73 years of age and Mrs. McGuire has also passed the 70 years milepost. They have lived most of their married life in this community where they have a host of friends who wish them many more returns of the anniversary of their wedding. They have nine living children, thirty-four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mr and Mrs McGuire now reside alone in their comfortable home on north Lucien street. The out of town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Nevins and daughter, Helen, of Stuart, Iowa; Mr and Mrs. John Nevins of Valley Falls, Kans.; Mr W. C. Nevins of Arrington, Kas.; Mrs. Nellie Meader of Valley Falls, Kans.; Mrs. Robert Johnson and daughter, Rheva, of Mayetta, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jontra of Gage, Okla., and Mrs. Belle Hensel, of Holton, Kansas.
