Captain James Terrell married Abigail, daughter of Enoch and Mary Buck. He came from Milford to New Haven shortly after his brother Caleb and settled on a right of land in the North Purchase. He took an active part in the Revolution in the matter of food and clothing for the Army and was for several years a leading member of the Committee of Safety of the Town. He was also for many years Captain of the Militia of New Milford. He died 4-10-1812 and his wife died 1-9-1774. They, with several of their children, are buried in the Grave Yard in Upper Merryall, New Milford. The inscriptions on their tomb-stones are as follows:
