John Hammond 
John was born in 1643 in Anne Arundel Co. MD. He died at the age of 64 on November 24th, 1707 in Anne Arundel Co. MD. He was buried in St. Anne's Cemetery, Church Circle, Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., MD.General Notes
Early History of St. Margaret's Church 1692-1792
The Hammond family would also playa role in the support of the church a
nd in the politics of the area. John Hammond, an ardent member of the Chur
ch of England, wrote, in 1655, the influential pamphlet Leah and Rachel, o
r, The Two Fruitful Sisters Virginia and Maryland, which argued for religi
ous peace between the colonies. He settled on the Severn and became a memb
er of the Provincial Court, and later, a delegate to the Lower House. H
is son, Colonel Charles Hammond, became Treasurer of the Western Shore.
