Thomas Woodford, came to Boston in WILLIAM & FRANCIS, embarked 7 Mar; arr. 5 Jun 1632; settled Roxbury; freeman 1635; m.Roxbury Mary, dau. Richard or Robert Blott; he came to Agawan with Mr. Pynchon's company where he signed the agreement of 16 May 1636; and had an allotment of land. Named in the distribution of 1639 Hartford, where he was one who rec. land by courtesy of the town; his home-lot was on the west side of the highway now Front St. Chosen with Arthur Smith, 10 Feb 1639/40 to attend the townsmen, and to do any special services required by them, as to give notice of town Meetings, impound stray cattle, etc. Appointed to act as sexton 3 Mar 1640 at attend the making of graves for any corpses dec'd; to rec. for giving notice by ringing the bell, making the grae and keeping of it in seemly repair, so that it may be known in future time; when such graves have been made for the lesser sort 2/6; for middle sort 3 shillings and for higher sort 3/6; also appointed town crier and to paid 2 pence for crying anything lost.
