John Dwight (1599-1659) came from Dedham, England to Watertown Mass in 1634, then settled in Dedham, Mass in 1635 and founded the Church of Christ. He was one of the five trustees of the first free school in America, supported by a town tax in 1644. He was a freeman in 1638, a selectman for 16 years.
