IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, The tenth Day of May One Thousand Seven Hundred a
nd Sixty three, being sick in Body but of good and perfect Memory, Than
ks be to the Almighty God, and recalling to Remembrance the uncertain Sta
te of this Transitory life, and that all Flesh must Yield to Death, wh
en it shall please God to Call; do make, constitute, ordain and declare th
is my Last Will and Testament, in Manner and Form following, revoking a
nd annulling by these presents, all and every Testament and Testament a
nd Testaments, will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared eith
er by Word or Writing; and that is to be taken only for my Last Will and T
estament and none other. And first, being penitent and sorry from the Bott
om of my heart for my sins past, most humbly desiring Forgiveness for t
he Same, I give and commit my Soul unto Almighty God, my Savior and Redeem
er in whom and by the Merits of Jesus Christ, I trust and believe assured
ly to be Saved and to have Remission and Forgiveness of all my Sins, and t
hat my Soul with my Body, at the general Day of the Resurrection, shall ri
se again with Joy; and thru the Merits of Christ’s Death and Passion, poss
ess and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, prepared for his elect and chose
n; and my Body to be buried in Such a Place where it shall please my Execu
tors hereafter named to Appoint. And now for the settling of my Temporal E
state and such Goods, Chattels and Debts as it hath pleased God, far abo
ve my Deserts, to bestow upon me, I do order, give and dispose the Sa
me in Manner and Form following; (that is to Say) First, I will that all t
hose debts and Dues as I owe in right and Confidence to any Manner of Pers
on or Persons whatsoever shall be well and truly contented and paid, or or
dained to be paid within convenient Time after my Death, by my Executors h
ereafter named.
Item, I give and bequeath: Imprimis I give and bequeath of Margaret, my de
arly beloved Wife, a Horse and Saddle fit for riding from my Sons Thomas a
nd Joseph, her Bed and Bedclothes and to live along with Thomas and Jose
ph and have food and Raiment and, if she chooseth to live by herself, Th
ey are to build her a house furnish her with firewood to give her a cow a
nd victualing and maintenance as she needeth or else fifteen Bushels of gr
ain two part wheat and third part corn ground in meal and brought to her h
and with the Sowing of half a Bushel of flax if she require such a quantit
y. Likewise her Chest, and Wheel, the Least and middling pots and a Quart
er of beef yearly also Six plates a Dish and Ten Pounds Pennsylvania Curre
ncy.
2. I give and bequeath my Oldest Son Peter five pounds Currency.
3. Item I give and bequeath of my Son John twenty pounds Currency.
4. Item I give and bequeath to John Baldrige my Son in Law three Pounds Cu
rrency after having settled accounts with him.
5. Item I give and bequeath to my Sons Thomas and Joseph my Plantation, mo
veables, House, Household goods furniture have Payed each their Shares spe
cified in the other Articles.
6. Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Anne a horse worth about fifte
en Pounds Price with a good Saddle and Bridle a Bedding of Clothes, her Ch
est, and fifteen Pounds Cash. I likewise Constitute make and ordain my So
ns John and Thomas the Sole Executors of this my last will and Testament a
ll and Singular my Lands, Messuages, and Tenements by them freely to be po
ssessed and enjoyed. And I do hereby disallow revoke, and disannul all a
nd every other former Testaments, will and Legacies, Bequests and Executor
s, by me in any way before this time Named, Willed and Bequeathed, Ratifyi
ng and Confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament, In w
itness whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal, the day and year abo
ve written.
