Jeremiah was born on October 17th, 1813. Jeremiah's father was William Squire Skaggs and his mother is Mary Pierce. His paternal grandfather was James ,Jr. Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Mary Unknown. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Fielding, Stephen S., Henry D., Rachel, Libby, Jane and Louisa. He is the fifth oldest of the nine children. He had three half-sisters named Elizabeth, Mary and Nancy.-
