Alias:<ALIA> /Kreitton/
According to THE CLAN CRICHTON
(http://www.tartans.com/clans/Crichton/crichton.html):
"Arms: Argent, a lion rampant Azure, amred and langued Gules
Crest: A dragon spouting out fire proper
Tartans: Crichton
The name Chrichton comes from the lands of Kreitton, one of the earliest
baronies around Edinburgh. One of the first mentions comes from the
twelfth century when Thurstan de Crechtune served as a witness to the
foundation of the Abbey of Holyrood House. The family land holdings were
extended in the thirteenth century when Thurstan's grandson, William de
Crichton, married the heiress to the barony of Sanquhar in Dumfreisshire."
From an email titled The Creightons/Crichtons by Albert S. Creighton
dated 4/23/2002: "Through my search for the family origins, with help
from others I have contacted, the Creightons/Crichtons come from
Strathclyde, Briton, which today is Strathclyde, Scotland. It was part
of the Border ridings. they then moved toward Edinburgh in later
centuries, where they were first recorded on record. They were never a
Clan, but a family of professionals who through out history served
various raoyal families, who gave them titles and land for a job well
done. The Creightons/Crichtons are entitled to wear the Edinburgh
district Tartan, and family affliation tartans such as any family the
males of the family married into, such as I can wear the McEwan, MaGee
and the McKenzie Tartans by right of marriage, and yes the Stewart/Stuart
tartan by association." Al Creighton
