Alias:<ALIA> /Johann/
Forrest Jolly (jolly@@ruralnet2.com) has John Jacob Wetzel born April 8,
1746 in Macungie Twp, Bucks Co. PA d. November 1785, Reading, Berks
County, PA married Anna Maria Bassler based on Moravian Church, Emmaus,
PA records-if that birthdate is correct than some children listed as
theirs either are not or have incorrect birthdates-or we're dealing with
possibly another Johan Jacob Wetzel not son of Conrad but possibly a
nephew?
According to Lawrence E. Goodman (at lgoodman@@orcalink.com
http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=get&db=i0033&id=114): "Some
prior researchers, in error, report this person as the son of the
immigrant Conrad Wetzel. In the opinion of Charles Kerchner this is
illogical and wrong according to his data. The immigrant Conrad Wetzel
had a son named Jacob but it is not this Jacob. There were several Jacob
Wetzels in this area during that time...He settled on a large farm in
Hereford Township, Berks County, then Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
Berks County was formed out of Philadelphia County in 1752. A township
road named Wetzel Road passes through his land and is named to
commemorate this early pioneer family. His farm was very near the county
line. Across the county line to the east was then Bucks County, later
(1752) Northampton County, and still later (1812) Lehigh County. Across
the county line in Upper Milford Township was St. Peter's Union Church,
where many Wetzels are oburied. Some of his descendants later lived just
across the line in Upper Milford Township...His will mentions his wife
Maria, and shows the oldest son to have been Jacob. To the son Conrad
was given the large Bassler Bible. The children listed were Jacob,
Johannes, George, Philip, Catarina, Peter, Heinrich, Conrad, and
Marialiss. Estate records report that his land was sold to Henry
Heimbach was was married to his daughter, Catherine Wetzel..."
