According to "The Surnames of Scotland," p 311, the name Glasgow is "fromthe old burgh now the city of Glasgow. John de Glasgu was chaplain ofGamelin, bishop of St. Andrew in 1258, Andrew de Glasgow, escheator in1289, and John of Glasgow appears as a monk of Holyrood in 1299. Paymentwas made to John de Glasgu in 1343 for the table of the king's servants,Alan Glasgow was murdered in 1494, Robert Glasgow was a witness in theburgh in 1554, and John Glasgow was creditor to Mr. William Cuninghame in1761. Mac Giolla-Domhnaigh says that this name in Ulster is an Anglicizedform of McCluskey."
There is an unknown Joseph Glasgow identified in Orange Co. Will andAdministrations in May 1777 who assisted in the administration of JohnHunter's estate.
