General Notes
Fergus flourished in the end of the reign of King Malcolm Canmore andlived until near the end of that of King Malcolm IV who died 1165. He wasrich and powerful and had been engaged with the English against his owncountry but at last submitted and delivered his eldest son Uchtred to theKing as an hostage for his good behavior. He founded the monastery ofDundrennan in 1142, also the Priory of Whitehorn and made severaldonations to the monastery of Holyrood-house, etc. He at last became areligieuse, retired to the last named monastery in 1160 and died soonafter.
