Lord of Nablus.  He was part of the group who wanted to have the marriage of his step daughter, Isabella, annulled. He was ruler of Ramlah and defender of Jerusalem.  He had escaped from the battle of Hittin shortly before the defeat of his troops, and took refuge in Tyre.  He took an oath not to fight but asked Saladin to release him from the oath, which he did so he could organize the defense of Jerusalem.  Saladin arranged an escort to lead Maria Comnena to Tyre for safety.  He negociated the surrender of Jerusalem and saved many lives. He was the half brother of Queen Isabella.  He was the head of the oldest-established noble family, the Greniers.  He was also John of Beirut's nephew through his mother Helvis of Ibelin.
