Melisende had an affair with a young knight, Hugh II, of Le Puiset, who felt threatened and so he went to Ascalon, among the Egyptians, which led to the assasanation of her lover. When news got out about Hugh, Walter Ganyea challanged Hugh to a duel, but Walter didn't show up. Hugh was assacanated by a knight from Brittany. The assason was caught and quartered. She was a patron of the arts. She commissioned the building of the convent of St. Lazarus at Bethany for her younger sister Yvette. She may have helped in building the Dome of the Rock as it was constructed during her reign. She did the rebuilding of the church of the Holy Seculachre un the 1140's.
