Nancy J. was born in 1847 in Kentucky. Nancy J.'s father was William Allen Zike and her mother was Lydia Goforth. Her paternal grandparents were Jacob "Zeuch" Zike and Katherine Lucinda Avey; her maternal grandfather was Thomas Goforth. She had six brothers and a sister, named Jacob, James Thomas, Alexander, George W., Francis M., Samuel Pinkerton and Casandra. She was the youngest of the eight children.-
