TITL Descents from Antiquity
AUTH The Augustan Society
Chris Bennett (cbennett@@nospam.com) writes: The Augustan DFA charts show lines from the 17t h Egyptian dynasty to the medieval English kings. There are no "proven" descents going ove r that period.
There are two major problem with the DFA charts: (1) they don't distinguish between prove n descents and hypothetical ones, giving the uninitiated the impression that this is all prov en material,
and (2) there is no bibliography so you can't follow up on it [one was intended but the Augu stans never got around to publishing it.] The hypotheses used are not always the best one s -- in many
cases they are very old and IMO certainly wrong -- but they are not fantasies, the ones I ha ve identified (mostly in the earlier sections) are always the results of someone's serious sc holarship.
Stewart Baldwin (sbald@@auburn.campus.mci.net) arites: There are a number of Descents from An tiquity charts floating around, and the answer to your question depends on which line you ar e interested
in and what you want to know about it. If you want a well documented generation-by-generati on descent from antiquity, then the
answer is that none of the charts purporting to give such a descent are valid. Depending o n which claim for descent from antiquity you are talking about, the assessment would generall y range from
plausible (but definitely unproven) to completely absurd.
