e\Date: Sat, 7 Feb 1998 00:46:51 EST\Diane: This apparent problem with all th
e John Boye's can give one a headache! My original information on the original
John Boye and wife Jane came from the research of the late Howard Coulby, Jr., o
f Culpepper, VA. He went to Charles County and did considerable research in pub
lic files and at Durham Parish. He said that John arrived in the United States
on a ship named the John & Sarah. He did not say where. So, I went to Memphis
and told the research librarian I want to look at ship logs in the 16 and 1700's
, but did not know anything other than the possible name of the ship and name of
the passenger. She gave me a huge book and told me to search the index of\nam
es, arranged by date, not alpha, and find the one I wanted and she would then\g
et the proper book for me. I did not write down the name of the books, a grave
error on my part. I can get that however next time I go there if it will help.
Anyway, I found the ship log and perused it carefully and found two John Boye's
and a Robert Boye, all deported. If you desire I could copy some material from
Scotch Prisoners Deported to New England from a book New World Immigrants. The
chapter in question is Prisoners From The Battle Of Dunbar, subtitle Scotch Pris
oners Deported to New England By Cromwell, 1651-1652.\The entire chapter is 55
pages which gives the entire history of the situation, and even the affidavits s
urrounding the deportation and the receipt by Thomas Kemble of Charles Towne. M
ost of it does not relate directly to John Boye, but sets up the entire scenario
by giving a total historical perspective. Let me know if this would be helpful
. Copy costs could get expensive if I sent it to every one on our list, but i w
ould be glad to do it for you. Gwen already has some of it and I have sent it t
o Betty earlier.\As far John Boye III and his wife Mary Beall or mary Offutt, t
his is hard to nail down. But, in "Colonial Families" the name is Beall and her
parents are listed. Overwritten on "Beall" in the copy I saw and copied was a
question mark, which means to me someone else questioned the accuracy of the nam
e. My felling is pretty strong, intuition if you will, that Mary Offutt was Mar
y Beall and married an Offutt before she married John Boye. I know that could s
ound far fetched, but look at the old marriage records and see how many wives ha
d been married before! Husbands too! So, think it over and tell me what you th
ink. I will mail the circle on this hoping Michelle and others close to the sce
ne in Maryland can check it out, or perhaps someone has knowlege already. \I am
staying so busy with e-mails I may have to leave home sometime and so some more
research before answering them! But I love it!\Everette[MCLALLENuds-m.ged]\T
