Born near the village of Herrljunge, about 70 miles northeast of Goteborg (Got henburg). In this beautiful region of Sweden, he lived with his parents, Pehr Magnusson (or Manson) and Annika Perrsdotter, a brother Johann Pehrson, and a sister Kristina. Young Peter received religious training in the home and at the local "common"shcool. He was confirmed a member of the Hudene church. He al so heard of the opportunities that were open in the United States of America a nd made plans to seek his fortune there. As a single man, aged 23, he immigrate d to America in 1867 and came to settle in Altona, Illinois, a predominently S wedish settlement near Galesburg, about 170 miles west and south of Chicago. Here he found work with the railroad and also did farm work. His life was sho rtly to be caught up in the life of Carolina Borg who arrived in the little to wn a year later. Peter Peterson signed a license to marry "Carolina Nelson" on October 18, 1872 Much of the history of this family is in the book writen by Lillie Chingren "Carolina's Children"
