_MDCL Unusually tall, suffered with arthritis. Ednyfed Fychan was a member of the royal house hold of King Llywellyn ap Gruffydd of Gwynedd. From this king (presumably) he received exten sive grants of land, which when added to that of his clan (the descendants of the 9th centur y Marchudd) served as the basis for establishing some of the most prominant lineages of post- conquest Wales. While the Tudors, descendants of his son Gorownry and later kings of Englan d are the most prominant descendants, their lineage was overshadowed during the 13th and 14t h centuries by the descendants of another son, Gruffydd (from whome derives the Griffiths o f Burton Agnes, who started this thread), and after a brief period of notice, went into eclip se with the fall of Glyn Dwr to the benefit of a third line, the descendants of another broth er, Tudur (this line giving rise to Griffith of Penrhyn). It was only with the secret marria ge of Owen ap Maredudd ap Tudur (Owen Tudor) that the line of Gorownry shot back to prominanc e. For more information on these families, see Dictionary of Welsh Biography under Ednyfed F ychan, Rhys ap Griffith (Sir), Gruffydd Llwyd, and Griffith of Penrhyn, and also the 1915 Eng lish Historical Review, and Aspects of Welsh History: Selected papers of the late Glyn Robert s (from which the following is derived), and Bartrum.
