As I said, I have the 1820 and later census for these Copelands from Greene
Co., PA and from Fulton and McDonough Counties in Illinois. I have obits,
marriage records and cemetery records for them. I have death certificates,
depending on when they died. Illinois did not require death certificates
until 1917. Sarah Sneider Copeland has a stone in Bushnell cemetery with
those of her children, Alfred, Alpheus, Sarah Woody, Joanna, Elizabeth and
John. She is in the 1870 census for McDonough County, Illinois. Samuel
Coplan is buried in Colchester, McDonough Co., Illinois.
Nehri, another son of William and Sarah, stayed in the Green Co., and West
Virginia area and some of his children are buried in Greene County, PA.
William Copeland shows up in the Greene Co., PA census where all of his
children were born. He apparently died before 1840, as Sarah is head of
household in 1840 and his children are on the lists of poor children who
were schooled by the county after that. As far as I can tell, they were the
only Copelands in Greene Co., at that time.
William apparently had a sister, Sarah, who was married in Berkley co., VA
on the same day as he and Sarah were. She married David Strode, and David
and William posted bond for each other.
