Data from Mrs. Mildren Roden desc. of Hosea Bilyeu Isaac
Bilyeu died about the close of or just after th Civil War
ended in Carroll County, ARkansas. He was living at the
head of Big Indian Creed, now know as Woods Spring. He and
wife and son Jacob Bilyeu were all buried there near teh
spring, in Carroll County Ar. Isaac Bilyeu was living in
Overton County Tn as early as 1812 when he joined the army
there. Isaac Bilyeu vol. in Bradley's 1st reg. of Tn in
the War with the Creek Indians in 1812. John Bilyeu
(1775-1853) who died in Miller Co. MO in 1853 and Willima
Bilyeu who moved from Miller Conty MO to Oregon sonn after
1850 also served in the same reg. William Bilyeu was the
only one to apply for bounty land on his service record.
Isaac Bilyeu and family are listed on census for Overton
Co. Tn 1820, Sagamon Co. ILL 1830, Miller Co. MO 1840,
Taney Co. Mo 1850. In 1860 Isaac Bilyeu age 80 born in PA
is listed on Carroll County Ark Prairie TWP census in
household of son Stephen Bilyer age 34 born in KY. The
1850 census has Isaac Bilyeu's birth in VA.
The family fo Isaac Bilyeu left Tennessee soon after or
about 1825. They may have resided in KY for a short time
when Stephen was born or the census record could be an
error. About 1829 they moved to Sagamon Co. ILL. Very sonn
they moved to Miller Co. MO. They were living in Carroll
County AR in 1838. I believe the family of John Witten
Bilyeu remained in Miller Co. Mo. along with others of the
family.
Our Isaac Bilyeu may have been a desc. of Pierre Bilyeu
(born about 1625/30 in France died in NY) who emigrated
from Holland, May 9 1661, in the ship St. Jan Baptiste. The
four children are listed as age 9, 7, 6, and 2 1/2. A fifth
child was born at sea and was baptized four days after
landing on Aug 10 1661 at the Ducth Reformed Church, New
Amsterdam. That child was named Isaac Bilyeu. This Isaac
was likely the only male issue of Pierre to have a viable
line of descent. Isaac Bilyeu had male heirs named Jacob,
John, Peter, Lucas, Daniel, and Isaac.
