Jean was born on 24-Jul-1743.1 Jean's father was John Gray and her mother was Margaret Blair. She was the oldest of five children. She had three brothers and a sister, named Charles, William, Francis and Elizabeth. She died, at the age of 42, on 19-Feb-1786.

The barony of Gray eventually passed to her descendants.
