Alane was born in 1952.  Alane's father was Thomas James Alfred Aspell and her mother was Grace Riley.  Her paternal grandmother was unknown; her maternal grandparents were Fredrick Riley and Minnie Brown.  She is the second of three children.  She has a brother and a sister, named Mick and Christine.
