The Northern Miner (Charters Towers, Qld) - Thursday 19 November 1953 - Wedding
"McAllister-Dungavell
St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Charters Towers was the scene of a very pretty wedding: recently when marriage vows were exchanged between Dorothy Ailsa, only daughter of Ald. and Mrs. W. Dungavell, of Bow Street, and William Peter, eldest son of Mrs H. McAllister, Slater Street.
The bride was given away by her father, wore a charming gown of white imported lace and nylon. The lace bodice featured a shaped pepium, short puffed sleeves, and miniature pearl buttons from neck of waistline. This was worn over a gracefully flowing nylon skirt. A three-tiered finger tip tulle veil was arranged from a juliet cap of soft white feathers which were held across the back with a spray of organge blossoms. To complete a lovely ensemble, the bride wore a single string of pearls wrist length, white nylon gloves and carried a bouquet of baby roses, stephanotis and frangipani.
Miss Joyce Morrison, of Melbourne, attended the bride as bridesmaid in a gown of shell pink. A pink broderie anglaise bolero was worn over a strapless bodice, and the full skirt of pink organdie which was appliqued with anglaise flowers. The shell shaped cap of pink feathers was offset with a tulle bow. Her ensemble was comleted, with short pink nylon gloves, and a single string of pearls. Her bouquet comprised pink roses and carnations.
Mr Gordon Atwell supported the groom as best man.
At the reception which followed at the old Town Hall, about 100 guests were entertained. Solos interspersed with toasts were rendered by Miss Marlene McCalium, Mrs Lee Conn and Mr Bill Oshyer. Miss McCalium also sang "My Prayer" at the church during the signing of the register.
The bride's mother received the guests in a white sheer frock, figured in lemon and black with matching lemon hat and black accessories. Frangipanni furnished her corsage.
The 'groom's mother favored burgundy accessories as a contrast to her grey crepe frock and grey hat. Her corsage was of red roses.
The three-tiered wedding cake was a gift made by Mrs H. Carkeet and iced by Miss D. Bruce.
For travelling to Cairns and the Tableland for the honeymoon, the bride donned a smartly tailored grey faille frock studded in grey pearls. Her accessories were in pink."
