The Northern Miner (Charters Towers, Qld) - Tuesday 18 January 1938 - Wedding
"McNEILL—OSHYER
A very pretty wedding. was celebrated at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Monday, January 3, when Gwen, youngest daughter of Mrs. Oshyer and the late Mr. Peter Oshyer, was joined in the holy bonds of matrimony to Don, only son of Mr. and Mrs. D. McNeill, of Townsville.
The Rev. S. Y. Potter officiated, and Miss Elsie White presided at the organ.
The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr. George Oshyer, who subsequently gave her away, looked charming in a classic gown of white georgette fashioned on Empire lines, falling away to a graceful train. The bodice featured a full cowl front, sleeves buttons from elbow to wrist, all daintily embroidered in richelieu. Her beautiful net veil was attached to the head with a halo of orange blossom, She carried a bouquet of white roses, eucharis lilies and orchids.
The bride was attended by two maids, the Misses Belle Oshyer (chief) and Lillian McAllister (cousin), who were frocked alike in pink and cream georgette respectively, being made with cowl fronts, pleated sleeves, skirts pintucked and inlet with full godets; picture hats and bouquets to match were chosen.
Messrs. Bill and Walter Oshyer very capably carried out the duties of best man and groomsman respectively.
At the completion of the ceremony about 50 guests were entertained by the bride's mother, who was gowned in latticed saxe blue mariette. She was assisted by Mrs. W. J. McAllister, who was attired in a dainty lemon floral fiat crepe.
A beautiful three-tier cake made and presented by Mr. W. J. McAllister (the bride's uncle) was the centre of attraction. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a lovely canteen of cutlery, and to each bridesmaid a string of cut crystals. The bride's gift to the 'groom was an engraved wallet. Many beautiful gifts and telegrams were received.
The happy couple left by train for Townsvllle, the bride travelling in a navy georgette with, red tonings, accessories to match."
