Forbes Advocate (NSW), Friday 13 April 1928 - Obituary.
"ANZAC'S SUDDEN END.
The death occurred at a private hospital at Randwick on Tuesday, of Mr. William A. Patterson, formerly well-known at Forbes as the manager of the Massey Harris depot in Dowllng Street.
At the time of his death, the late Mr. Patterson was an estate agent at Randwick, and his end came with startling suddenness, death being the result of ptomaine poisoning, brought about, it is stated, through eating a sandwich containing sadines. The late Mr. Patterson had lengthy war service, both at Gallpoli and in France, and was several times severely wounded. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the 18th Battallion, and was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry at Flanders. He had many friends at Forbes who will be sorry to hear of his passing. He leaves a widow, but no children. Deceased was the only son of Mrs. R. Drummond of Moo-nee Ponds, Melbourne, and his sisters are Mrs. C. Phillips, of Brisbane, Mrs. S. McComiskey, of Burren Junction, Mrs. H. Rule, Adelaide, Airs. E. J. Collins, of Katoomba, and Miss Jean Patterson, of Moonee Ponds."
