the following extracts are culled from a memoir: —
"This aged Minister of Christ expired at his residence in Goulburn on December 14th. We cannot permit him to depart from among us without a reference to his long ministerial services in the Colony in which he had faithfully pursued his occupation for upwards of 46 years. ...
"During the whole course of a life frequently checkered by painful trials, and extended far beyond the ordinary duration of human existence, he faithfully preached the truth, and the earnestness of his manner, his venerable appearance, and the beautiful intonation of his voice, gave a charm to his public and private ministrations rarely to be found. He was not only tolerant, but liberal, both in his opinions and his purse, towards different bodies of Christians; highly esteeming those of whatever sect they might be, who agreed with him in the great fundamentals of our faith."
It was his wish to be buried in the Liverpool Cemetery beside his first wife, and an old vault in that enclosure bears the following inscription:

The Rev. ROBERT CARTWRIGHT for Many Years Minister of St. Luke's Church. Born 1771 —Died 1856.
Also his Wife MARY. Born 1771—Died 1837.
Also their Daughter PENELOPE. Born May, 1822—Died June, 1882.
Also two Infant Children of Richard and Anne Sadlier.
Waiting for the Resurrection Day.
Descendants of the pioneer clergyman are Mr. W. J. Cartwright (Temora), and Miss Sophie Cartwright, of Arncliffe, Sydney.”
