"HALBERSTATER—KELLY
St Joseph's Cathedral, Rockhampton, was the setting chosen on June 2 for the wedding of Miss Winifred Kelly, third daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Kelly, Banksia, Rockhampton, and Mr. Alan Halberstater, 'Doreen', St Lawrence, third son of Mr and Mrs L. Halberstater, Dee Street, Mt Morgan.
The event was of considerable interest to a large circle of friends, as it united two of the oldest pioneer families in the district.
Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Murtagh, assisted by Rev. Dean Rowan.
The dainty bride, who was given away by her father, chose a frock of ivory ring velvet moulded to her figure, featuring a high cowl neckline, a pearl girdle and long tight-fitting sleeves. The skirt, which was fully flared, fell to form a long train. A tulle veil, with a coronet of orange blossoms, was worn over a veil of Brussels lace. The bride's bouquet was of eucharist and arum lilies.
The bride was attended by her two sisters, Misses Ellie and Mary Kelly, who were frocked in orchid silk velvet, cut on princess lines and trimmed with woodland violet taffeta. They wore hats to tone, and they carried bouquets of water lilies and dahlias.
Mr Jack Cronin (Townsville) carried out the duties of best man, and Mr Norman Chardon (Rockhampton) was groomsman.
At the reception, which was held at Stewart's Cafe, the guests were received by the bride's mother, who carried a bouquet of gladioli and who was frocked in black and white sheer, with a hat en suite. The bridegroom's mother, who assisted in receiving the guests, chose a frock of navy georgette with a hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of red roses.
When leaving for the honeymoon, which is being spent in a motor tour of the South, the bride travelled in a grey tailored costume, with navy accessories."
