  "It is with regret we announce the death of Mr. Timothy Sheehan, contractor, which took place yesterday at North Rockhampton. Mr. Sheehan was an old and respected resident of the borough. He arrived here early in the sixties, and has spent more than a quarter of a century in the district, living for the greater part of the time in North Rockhampton. He has been a member of the Borough Council for the last two years, and was one of the representatives of the Council on the Fitzroy Bridge Board. Mr. Sheehan has all his life enjoyed good health, and on Tuesday morning went about his business apparently as well as ever. He returned home in the forenoon, and at midday ate a hearty meal. Shortly after he took a cold bath, then dressed, and attended a meeting of the Works Committee at the Borough Chambers, of which Committee he was a member. The Committee had concluded its deliberations, and there was wanting but the signature of Mr. Sheehan to complete the record of its decisions. As he lifted the pen, Mr. Sheehan exclaimed "There is something the matter with me," and dropping the pen he fell backwards. In a little he was able to explain that he was suffering from extreme pains in the stomach, and the Town Clerk ran off for spirits. On the way to the hotel he met Dr. Stuart, who immediately saw to Mr. Sheehan, who was shortly after taken home. The remedies usual in such seizures were applied, and the patient appeared to rally, all pain leaving him early in the evening. Presently he began to get better and worse alternately, and Dr. Stuart, with Dr. Callaghan, remained in attendance until the early hours of the morning. The doctors were with Mr. Sheehan in the forenoon yesterday, and found that he was very weak ; and death occurred shortly after one o'clock. Mr, Sheehan was conscious from the time of the attack until within ten minutes of his decease, when he seemed to full into asleep. The cause of death is difficult to determine; but there would appear to be little doubt it was due to shock to the system caused by cramps, which, again, were probably induced by bathing in cold water too soon after a meal. Mr. Sheehan leaves a large family - mostly grown-up - two being State school teachers at Mackay and Rockhampton respectively. His remains will be interred in the North Rockhampton Cemetery to-day beside those of his wife, who died about six years ago. The regular fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council had been called for yesterday afternoon, and the Mayor (Alderman Linnett), and Aldermen Stewart, Thompson, Kearney, Schiekowsky, and Hogan attended. It was decided, however, to postpone the meeting us a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased."
